1.Some jobs can pay high salaries but require employees to leave their family and friends. Some jobs pay few salaries but allow employees staying with family and friend. Which job do you prefer? Why?
To achieve success, one has to face with a lot of struggling, and leaving one’s own family is one of them. Some people would prefer to stay with their family, arguing that they could take better care of their parents and children, which is much important than money. As far as I am concerned, I would prefer to work for higher salaries, even if I have to sacrifice the time with my family.
In the first place, working away from home has a significant advantage for earning higher salaries, which can definitely improve our families’ life standard. Take my father for an example, he chose to work in a company that was located in the capital city three years before, where he earned three times the salaries than ever. Being separated from his family was once a tough choice for him, however, he provides us with better life qualities, and consequently, he feels proud of himself. To understand the truth of happiness, it is crucial to take the responsibilities of our family. For that reason, choosing a job far away from a person’s family, in order to create a better life for his or her family members, is an impressive sacrifice.
Apart from the tremendous influence on the person and his or her family’s living condition, working for higher payment also has a huge impact on the person’s own development. Being paid more always means achievement to some extent, and as a consequence, our social status can be improved, which offers us with more opportunities. In the long run, larger success can be achieved. Consequently, we win the glory that belongs to ourselves, rather than just sacrificing for our family.
Certainly, working near one’s home has its own advantages, such as spending more time with the people we love and having more friends and relatives by our side, which contributes to our happiness. Additionally, homesickness can be avoided. It is not surprising that some people would never leave their hometown, even if they might have a better fortune. Admittedly, leaving home to work for a better future brings us a lot of difficulties, such as facing all the troubles alone, living in a place that we are not familiar with and etc.
To sum up, living with our family even though we are paid less is fascinating in some ways because the time spent with our family makes us happier. However, working away from our home for higher payment has significant advantages on providing a better life for our family and offering us more opportunities for our development, which provides us with a sense of achievement, and can also enable us to feel happy. It is reasonable to draw the conclusion that I would prefer to work away from home for a higher salary.
2.Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? In the past young people depended on their parents for making decisions. Today, young people are better able to make decisions on their own.
With the development of society, our living habits have been changed greatly. One of the most significant changes is the issue of whom we young people depend on when making a decision. In the past, young people usually depended on their older family members, especially their parents. However, in contemporary society, we young adults tend to make choice on our own. Here are the reasons.
Admittedly, in the past, the ways they acquired information, most of which come from experience, were limited. It was parents who are much more experienced than their children. In this case, they tended to listen to parents’ advice and let them to control determination. As we all know, over the several decades, parents made the decision for their children who they would marry with in China. At that time, girls had no chance to meet the young men with the same age. However, their parents had the permission to know their children’s future partners through various ways. Without doubt, it was a right choice to depend on their parents when making a decision in the past.
However, we can get access to a great amount of information, which do good to decision making nowadays. Surfing on the internet, clicking on the mouse, news will display on your computer screen within seconds. What’s more, after educating, we have learnt knowledge in a system way, which enable us to understand ourselves and the world better. All of these create a good atmosphere for us young people to make decision on ourselves. According to a survey conducted by Peking University aiming to find out how students choose their majors, 80 percent of students depend on their own while less than 20% decided by their parents or teachers instead. Most students are independent nowadays. They would listen to their parents, but it is their own who determine the final choice.
Another important reason is that some of adults’ experience works less effectively on our generation because conditions change rapidly in the information age. In the past, it was less likely for youngsters to move out of our hometowns while we usually move from one place to another nowadays. So parents’ idea might not fit our situation any more. Consequently, we prefer to make a decision depend on our own experience.
In sum, for the reasons I mentioned above, I totally agree that in contemporary society, we young adults are better able to make choice on our own.
